Father Bertha De Zoot
Father Bertha De Zoot (the Nun Too Straight) started on his path to Sisterhood at the November 2009 Bingo (whose Beneficiary was Bob Burke's Kids Program ... Bob was also Sainted that night!). It was the first Bingo, the first Sister event, I had ever attended. Not knowing what to expect, I had my mind blown continuously all evening, starting with all the Sisters in bright festive attire, sequins, jewelry, glitter and make-up everywhere! Everyone so beautiful, funny, kind ... and BUSY! Next came the first raffle drawing of small and cheap items plucked from the overflowing table beneath the Bingo board and the whole room erupted pounding the tables and stomping feet shouting "FREE SHIT!! FREE SHIT!!" Then they brought Bob Burke up to tell us a little bit about his Kids Program that was the nights Beneficiary. When he finished, the Sisters surprised him with Sainthood! Growing up Catholic and watching Sisters in face sainting this community member, my mind was blown yet again. After many fun games of Bingo (and shenanigans of various sorts for things like calling a false Bingo or getting caught "sexting" on a cell phone by the Bingo patrons), just before we left, Sister Dawna Matrix told us a "Remember, we love you and there's not a damn thing you can do about it!" Some of the most powerful words I have ever heard. Dawna also said that if we wanted to become a Sister, to come to General Membership meeting which was the next night. I went, and that was the genesis of Father Bertha.
My Mother is Sister Nova Nilla and I was Veiled as a Fully Professed Sister on .. Father's Day! in 2011. It has been an incredible journey, and I love serving my Sisters and community.
I don't have a favorite song, but one that always resonates with me is "One Vision" by Queen.
My favorite quote is "Remember, we love you and there's not a damn thing you can do about it!"
