Russian River Senior Center Needs Your
Help!
By Sister Sparkle Plenty
July 28, 2005 -- Guerneville,
CA. The Russian River Senior Center faces an enormous financial problem
which threatens its very existence. The center has lost a major source of
funding which means they will have to substantially reduce services to members
of our community who need help the most.. our senior citizens.
"We're doing everything we can think of to help the RR Senior Center maintain
services to our community of seniors who depend on it's services." said Sister
Nova Nilla, president of the Russian River Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. "The
Senior Center has lost major funding from United Way and this has forced the
executive director, Diane Spain, to lay off all paid staff and substantially
reduce her hours."
"This means the 300 local seniors served by the center will see drastic cuts in
the services provided to them. Besides providing meals and other services to
seniors at the center, volunteers also deliver daily meals to over 60 house
bound seniors." said Sr Sparkle Plenty. "Because of the financial crisis, most
of these services will come to a grinding halt unless funding can be found." Sr.
Sparkle continued.
"Through the generosity of the Pegasus Theater Group we have been given a
wonderful opportunity to help the Senior Center. On August 5th there will be a
special preview performance of "Crimes of The Heart" a funny, prize winning
farce written by Beth Henley. All proceeds from ticket and concession sales from
this event will be donated to the RR Senior Center." said Sr. Sparkle Plenty.
"We invite all members of our community to help us make a difference in the
quality of life for our seniors," said Sr. Barbi Mitzvah. "Any person interested
in buying tickets for the play or making a donation can do so by logging onto
our website www.rrsisters.org". "All donations are tax deductable and will be
given directly to the RR Senior Center" Sr. Barbi continued.
"We have visited with many community members over the last few days and they
have all expressed dismay and concern over this crisis. Many of them have asked
to be included in our fundraising efforts." said Sr. Sparkle Plenty.
"The RR Sisters held a special Bingo game earlier in July, which benefitted the
Senior Center. If any members of our community are interested in helping us with
more fundraisers for the Senior Center we would welcome the opportunity to work
with them" said Sr. Nova.
