Announce Launch of New Community Website and OktoberFest Celebration
September 14, 2001 --
Guerneville, CA. Much like the Russian River that divides the valley, a
separation of this rural community has risen due to recent acts of
violence against its diverse community. Intending to build a bridge between torn
communities, the Russian River Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence announced today
the inauguration of a new community based website, RussianRiverEvents.com, and
an OktoberFest celebration.
This new site is dedicated to the entire community without restrictions and
offers anyone in the Russian River Community of schools, churches, private
individuals and business access to free promotion and web access. The site will
also provide promotional email and web pages for events should the organizer not
have access to their own website. Accordingly, the site will kick off the
Sisters OctoberFest celebration.
OktoberFest will be co-sponsored by the Sisters, Guerneville Chamber of Commerce
and Fife’s Resort. The event will be held on Saturday October 13, from 1 – 8 pm
at Fife’s Resort in Guerneville. The event will include activities for both
children and adults, including traditional German food and music, an Arts &
Crafts fair, logging and timbering contests and entertainment. The Hate Stops
Here committee will be on hand for a presentation and the event will conclude
with a Unity Bonfire to symbolize the expulsion of hate from the community,
especially in light of the recent attacks against the United States.
“We are spreading the word that we are here to help each learn about each
other’s diverse cultures in our community. Using events to bring people together
to interact is a key process in overcoming hate and fear” stated Sister Barbi
Mitzvah, Webmaster of the new site.
The Russian River Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are a newly formed mission of
the San Francisco Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Inc. and have attended over
